Not knowing that Su Ran had drifted so far from their conversation, an uncontrollable joy entered into Lu Shao’s eyes.
“I will do my best to be a good father and a good husband and work on making our family better.” Lu Shao made a promise looked at Su Ran after a light chuckle and pinching his lips shut.
“I’ll also make your future life better.” He took a step closer to Su Ran and said in a low voice. “Trust me, Mrs. Lu.”
His voice came almost from above Su Ran’s head.
Feeling the person behind her getting closer, Su Ran stiffened up right away.
She panicked a little.
Parting and shutting her lips, Su Ran heard Lu Shao’s voice again before she could say anything.
“Xiao Ran.” Those words made her even more nervous then when he was making his promises earlier.

Except that, before Mr. Lu could say or do anything else, they were interrupted by some very untimely knocking.
The second the knocking started, Lu Shao stiffened visibly, and a stern and impatient look crossed his eyes.
Su Ran, however, didn’t think much of it.
The knocking brought her out of the nervous state that she was in earlier.
“Let me go take a look,” said Su Ran before she dried her hands and went to get the door.
They were, after all, living in a more old-style building and many households had been here for over 10 years. It was customary for neighbors to stop by from time to time to chitchat or talk about monies for maintenance.
Seeing how Su Ran pretended to be nonchalant but was actually relieved, a helpless look crossed Lu Shao. Pinching his lips shut a little, he finally stepped aside and made way for Su Ran.
“Who is it?” asked Su Ran through the door.

“Xiao Su, it’s me.”
Grandma Da Bao?
Su Ran raised her brows when she heard the voice and opened up the door. She saw Grandma Da Bao standing there with a big smile on her and two oranges in her hands.
“Did you just finish dinner?” asked Grandma Da Bao. She could still smell the food in the air. “Yes, we have just finished eating.” Su Ran nodded and also asked, “Have you had dinner yet, Grandma Da Bao?”
“I had. We usually have dinner early in our house. My sister brought over some oranges a couple of days ago. They are super sweet, so I thought I’d bring a couple over for you to try,” said Grandma Da Bao as she looked around and around the house in an exploratory way.
Su Ran witnessed the whole thing.
“What’s the matter?” asked Su Ran.
“Hoho, nothing.” Grandma Da Bao suddenly realized what she was doing after Su Ran had asked her. She chuckled a couple times nervously.
She wasn’t here to drop off oranges. She just heard Aunty Li, the babble mouth, talking about the man that was over at Su Ran’s place who was Su Ran’s husband and Su Han’s father. She couldn’t help her curiosity and wanted to come and see for herself.

Finally, after her eyes and rolled around a few times, Grand Da Bao lowered her head and saw a pair of men’s shoes on the shoe rack by the door.
Grand Da Bao’s eyes lit up.
No way they belonged to Su Han.
“Ah, you have guests over?” asked Grandma Da Bao.
“Yes, Su Han’s dad’s over,” said Su Ran with a smile. She didn’t see the need to hide that.
With that said, however, Grand Da Bao couldn’t help but grumbled to herself.
“He really is Su Han’s father?” She asked Su Ran in a low voice.
All of these old residents knew exactly how Su Han came about. She didn’t believe it one bit that Su Han’s father would show up like this after so many years.

“Yes.”
“He came looking for you two?” asked Grandma Da Bao.
“More or less,” said Su Ran with an awkward smile.
She was not going to elaborate on her family business. She just muddled it through.
After she finally sent Grandma Da Bao on her way and returned to the kitchen, she found Lu Shao there by the sink with his sleeves rolled up, finishing up the dishes. And he had just finished them all by the time Su Ran went inside.
“Didn’t I say I will take care of them?” said Su Ran as she blinked and looked at Lu Shao somewhat embarrassed.
Lu Shao’s lips curved upward when he heard her.
“All the same.” He dried the last bowl after he had said that and placed it into the top shelf of the cabinet.
