Evidently, something else occurred to Zhou Fu.
“You are right. I did not think it through.”
“What about a watch or a pair of sneakers?”
“Too wasteful.”
“A toy model of some kind?”
“Toy could distract him from what’s important.”
……
“Why don’t we open up an account for the little young master and we will make an annual deposit into the account for him?” asked Zhou Fu again.
Cliché? Yes. But it was about as practical as it could get.
Besides, he was fresh out of ideas.
“Do you feel that he will lack money in the future?
“He’s just a child right now, what would he need so much money for?
“Besides,” Lu Shao paused before he carried on, “That’s my money. Why would I want to give any to him?”
Zhou Fu was utterly speechless from Lu Shao’s three rapid-fire questions.
Zhou Fu begged for mercy silently in his mind and, right before he was about to back out of the room quietly, he saw Lu Shao picked up an item from his desk casually and tossed it over to him.
“Sir, this…!” Trembling, Zhou Fu caught what was tossed over at him. He eyes widened instantly and he looked at Lu Shao in disbelief.
As seasoned as Zhou Fu was, he still couldn’t hide the shock he was feeling at this moment.
“This, are you sure you want to….”
“Go have it wrapped and have it sent over to him on Friday,” said Lu Shao in a very decisive tone before Zhou Fu could finish what he was saying.
“Yes, Sir. I will deliver this to little young master in person.”
“Just give it to him. No need to say anything else,” added Lu Shao.
“Yes, Sir.”
After Zhou Fu had left the room, it dawned on Lu Shao that he has yet to reply to the last message that Su Ran had sent over and he picked up his cellphone.
Lu: I’m sorry. There is something tricky that I need to take care of on the 17thso I won’t be able to celebrate his birthday with him.
Lu: I will have someone bring over his gift on the day of.
On the other end, Su Ran, who had already forgotten about the earlier conversation, was a bit surprised when she saw the last two messages from Lu Shao.
She only informed him out of obligation. She didn’t think he would care so much about it and would even be sending over a gift.
Not a bad instant father at all.
Thought Su Ran to herself as she gave Su Han a profound look.
Another message came from Lu Shao in the next second: Say Happy Birthday to him for me.
Su Ran: Hehehe…
Given the relationship between these two plastic father and son, Su Han’s birthday would arguably be happier if she didn’t relay the message.
But, speaking of gifts…
Su Ran glanced over at a package sitting in a corner.
That might be a bit on the light side.
Thought Su Ran to herself.
The very next second, as thought something had occurred to her, her eyes lit up. She grabbed her cellphone decisively and downloaded a bunch of baking recipes from the web.
She had decided to make her son a cake with love!
“Son, do you have any extra notebooks?” asked Su Ran as she looked over at Su Han.
“Yeah, what do you want them for?”
“Give me one!”
“Sure. But you still tell me what you want it for?”
“Nothing much, just… to jot some notes down from recipes online is all,” said Su Ran, mixing some truth into her lie.
“Recipes?” Su Han’s eyes widened. He gave Su Ran a you-must-be-joking look. “You?”
“What? I can’t look up recipes on my free time? Are you questioning my ability?”
Had Su Han knew women any better, he would know that Su Ran’s meanness right now was just a cover up for how she was truly feeling.
Unfortunately, Su Han was just a 12 ~ 13 year old boy right now.
“No, do want you want…” said Su Han grimly. His voice filled with I-don’t-know-what-to-do-with-you sense of helplessness.
Luckily, they only owned two pieces of kitchen appliances – a rice cooker and a knock-off electrical stove.
They were small and light and shouldn’t pose too much of a threat.
Even if they were burned, their loss would be very limited.
