A+ A- Eye On

chapter 39

When Lin XiaoXiao graduated college six months ago, she was able to join Shengding because her cousin had pulled some strings for her. She was the envy of her entire class. Unfortunately, she had joined the company for six months now and was still just a little employee that nobody knew about.

Feeling unreconciled, Lin XiaoXiao’s original intention was just to bring herself some attention with these music pieces so the company would be more aware of her strength and perhaps she could be transferred to a different department and position. The responses to the music pieces had exceeded her expectation.

“Of course it’s true.”

Having said that, Director Zhou paused before she carried on, “But, the ten music pieces that you had submitted were incomplete. You need to provide us with the completed version as soon as possible. If you don’t have time to complete the sheet music, then clips from piano would be find too. The company is getting ready to distribute these ten pieces.”

“Y-You said, you want completed versions?”

Director Zhou had expected Lin XiaoXiao to be ecstatic from her words but there were no signs of cheerfulness on the little girl at all. From what she just said, Director Zhou sensed that something wasn’t right.

“What’s going on? Is that a problem?” asked Director Zhou as she frowned.

“Aren’t they complete? I know they were halved, but normally, wouldn’t you just repeat it once and then it’d be complete?”

“No.” Lin XiaoXiao’s words made Director Zhou’s face drop. “Master Liu and the others said that they were not complete. They have maybe 1/3 of the verse portion before skipping to the chorus and there are only half of the chorus as well.”

She recalled clearly that Master Liu had teased her about how the composer was a frugal person and whether she had done that to keep others from trying to steal her work. That being said, anyone who could do what she did was still madly talented.

Hearing Director Zhou’s words, Lin XiaoXiao collapsed on the chair and she felt like she was soaked in icy-cold water.

She did not major in music in college, but as an art student, she has had some exposure to some music classes.

She knew that she was done for from Director Zhou’s words.

She had originally thought that those pieces were only half of the entire piece. She hadn’t expected such a set up at all.

“I.. I don’t… have the complete versions.”

“What? What do you mean by that?”

“That… Director Zhou… I will come clean. Truth… truth was… I didn’t compose those pieces.” Having no other options, Lin XiaoXiao finally told the truth.

“What? Lin XiaoXiao!”

“I am sorry, Director Zhou. I just felt that the music pieces were really good and I wanted them to be heard…”

“Lin XiaoXiao, are you listening to yourself right now?” Director Zhou was infuriated by now. “Did you know that even though it hasn’t been announced yet, matters concerning these pieces had already been reported up to the General Manager and three departments even had a meeting discussing them!”

Director Zhou hadn’t told her all these details earlier because she didn’t want them to get to her head.

The truth was, after listening to those pieces, the Music Department felt that a superbly talented individual had joined their company and the Marketing Department felt that they were going to have a few hit songs for the year. They had even gone as far as contacting the film and television side of the business.

“I…” Lin XiaoXiao had never seen Director Zhou like that before and was about to start crying.

“Where did you get the music pieces from then?” asked Director Zhou, trying to suppress her anger.

“From… from a friend.”

“A friend?”

“No.. it’s from the company’s mailbox. I really didn’t do that on purpose, Director. It was Li-jie and the others…”

“I don’t have time to listen to your bullshit here! Go contact the sender now!” Lin XiaoXiao’s words were interrupted by Director Zhou.

“Oh, forget it. I’ll contact the person myself.”

“Um… that…”

“Speak.”

“I… I have already deleted the email…”
